Residential is where this business started and it is still most of what we do. If it rolls up, we work on it.

We measure the opening, order the door, fit it, and set the tracks so it runs quiet.

Repair and service

Springs, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks and panels. Most of what fails, we carry on the truck.

Electric operators

Openers installed, repaired and replaced, along with the remotes, keypads and safety eyes.

Parts and accessories

The small pieces that decide whether a door lasts another ten years or comes off its track.

Old door removal

The old door leaves with us the same day. Nothing gets stacked at the end of your driveway.

Weather stripping and molding

Finish molding and a fresh seal along the bottom, so the wind and the water stop getting under it.

For over 70 years

Three generations. Same standards.

Vincent Scalese learned doors working for a commercial outfit here in New England. In the 1950s, with the post war housing boom filling the towns west of Boston with new garages, he started S & S to sell, fit and service residential doors and electric operators.

His son Gary took over in 1977, worked alongside his father until Vincent retired in 1985, and ran the business through the eighties, nineties and two thousands. Gary's son Justin came aboard the same way his father had. Gary came off the road in 2019 and still helps out in the office.

The things worth knowing before you call anyone.

What does a service call cost?
The labor is a flat rate, and you hear that number before anything starts. Parts are separate and get priced before they go on. Call the shop for today's rate.
Will you try to sell me a door I do not need?
No. If the door can be fixed, we fix it. Our customers write about this more than anything else, which tells you how often it happens elsewhere.
Are you actually local?
124 Farnum Road, Waltham. Three generations of the same family at the same address. If a garage door company will not give you a street address, that is worth noticing.
Will you work on a door somebody else installed?
Yes, and most of our calls are exactly that. We have worked on every brand that goes up around here.
What if something goes wrong afterwards?
Call us. We stand behind the work, and plenty of our calls come from people we have looked after for years.
What if I need to cancel?
Please give us 24 hours. A late cancellation or a missed appointment may mean a trip charge, because the slot was held for you and the truck was routed for it.
